Darrin Shanholtzer

Flex Fitness Instructor

My Name is Darrin Shanholtzer, Im the owner/trainer at Flex Fitness Claremore.  I started in fitness after finding myself super unhappy with who and what I had become when I was about 23 years old.  I was an athlete in High School and always in great shape.  After High School I went to college for a while and decided that path wasnt for me.   I got married and had children and before I knew what happened I was super over weight and unhappy with not only my appearance but my physical ability.  I decided to start going to the gym with a friend of mine, I was just like everyone else who starts to go to the gym, a little intimidated, felt out of place, didnt know what to do or what order to do them, once I did decide on what I was doing that day I was never sure if I was even doing it the right way.  However despite total ignorance I started seeing my hard work pay off after a few weeks of consisitently working out. This motivated me, I knew what I had done was working yet still wasnt sure exactly what I was doing.  I decided that was not a good path to stay on so I started to educate myself on training and nutrition and how to get in great shape.  Ive made a lot of mistakes along the way and still learn all the time.  But now am at the point Im in control of how I look and feel.  I decided I wanted to share my knowledge with other people who found themselves where I once was and got certified as a personal trainer, later decided Claremore needed a nicer 24 hour facility than what was available and opened what is now Flex Fitness.  Ive competed in several body building shows and have coached a few clients into shows of their own.  Ive helped many people lose weight, get stronger, or complete physical goals they once thought were impossible.  In all honesty Im just happy to get to help people.  Watching them become more confident in their abilities and who they are and seeing that confidense carry over to real world experiences is my biggest accomplishment.  Were all looking for a Tribe to belong to and feel loved and cared about, to push us when were slacking and praise us when were doing well.  I'm just glad I can be a part of that here.
